Welcome to Advice and Beans!
As this is the first official post here at Advice and Beans, let me say thank you for coming!
So what is all this about? We’re here to talk a lot about prepping, a little about personal finance (mainly to be a better prepper!), and to answer any questions you may have about subjects as varied as food storage, generators, 72-hour kits and other fun subjects.
The plan is to do this from a beginner’s point of view. There are a gazillion prepping and survival sites on the ‘net and a gazillion more books about prepping, but often they assume a certain base knowledge or they expect one to spend hours and days reading into extensive archives. Here we’re just going to go a step at a time, from the standpoint of someone who has never once thought of keeping so much as an extra can of beans on hand and hasn’t turned on their flashlight in 5 years. We’ll discuss not only the how of prepping, but the why of each step in such a way so that everyone reading can choose their own methods.
To make it even easier, we’ll be running a little column several times a week called ‘What Can I Do Today’ that will lay out specifically things you can do day-to-day to increase your level of preparedness. If you do nothing else buy follow the advice of these posts, within a certain time period you will have increased peace of mind as you make it a routine to do something regularly to make yourself better prepared and more self-sufficient.

All posts about the very basics of things like food storage, survival kits and disaster plans will be there. We’ll talk about many more advanced topics as well, but they will always be based upon easily understandable foundational elements.
The next post will discuss what you can expect from Advice and Beans in terms of our posting schedule, plus a little information on any advertisements you may see now or in the future.
